TO TOUCH A RAINBOW & OTHER POEMS

By Nancy E. Campos

TO TOUCH A RAINBOW

How beautiful the innocence of someone so small
As he reaches To Touch A Rainbow on the wall
How he captivates my soul with his felicity
Happiness in its most organic simplicity
I am lost in his laughter as he screams with glee
As he looks at me and asks “do you see, Mimi?”
I’m filled with love as I get lost in his eyes
They melt me when they light up like two tiny stars
These are moments I will forever hold in my heart
When he’s grown the story of the rainbow I will impart
As the crystal casts its rainbows from the sun's rays
With zeal in his voice, I heard him use the phrase
“I want To Touch A Rainbow”
It all became so clear how was I to know
Here he was teaching me a lesson I could see
Happiness is within me it’s all in the way I perceive
He is teaching me to live free and without fear
I am getting this message loud and clear
The beauty in the rainbow as he sees it for the first time
It’s how I want to live this life of mine
Life, the lessons its taught, my journey is mine to embrace
The love, the joy, and even the pain I accept all with grace
For in the eyes of a 2-year-old I could behold
That my destiny, my story has yet to unfold
I see that my journey is incomplete and this is so
For when I am done, I will go home To Touch A Rainbow

BEAUTIFUL DREAMER

As I watch the moonlight dance on your face
My heart is filled with love, you take my breath away

The rhythm of your chest as you breathe the evening air
I love the way the light softly touches your hair

I'm mesmerized by your beauty in the evening glow
I feel you, I honor you as my tears begin to flow

You are the one, your essence completes me
It was spoken, it was written, it was our destiny

Our souls agreed to stand the test of time
I would be yours and you would be mine

The lessons we knew we had to learn
Together we’d master when we returned

Here you are as beautiful as I remember
When I first laid eyes on you that blissful day in September

As I looked into your eyes I was finally home
The universe brought us together. I’d found my soul

LOST INNOCENCE

To all those whose innocence was taken,
Who’s dreams were stolen, whose lives were shaken.
For those of us who trusted and believed,
Who now have to learn of that pain to be free.
We must not hate; we mustn’t carry their shame,
It was not us; the innocent are not to blame,
You are perfect; this you have to know,
Brave and beautiful your energy, your soul is aglow.
Letting go of the pain may hurt today,
Rely on your strength. It will find the way.
To always inspire always to be there,
For those who one day may face despair.
This burden is heavy for someone so small,
Don't let this break you. Remember always to stand tall.
Don’t give them that power to dim your light,
To steal your smile to turn your days into night.
Be patient; it may take a while,
Time will heal time will return your smile.

DESTINY

In the waking hours,
When all is calm,
I look out into the sky.
I think of it all.
Things I would change;
I realize, what is done is done.
It was all meant to be.
The manifestation of my destiny.
For in the agony of pain,
my soul grew.
In heartache,
Self-love was the lesson.
In moments of fear,
I learned to trust in myself.
In the attempts to tame anxiety,
I knew the art of acceptance.
In love and gratitude,
I learned to allow life to flow.
I am not in control.
I realize, this moment,
I am who I am meant to be.
With time, a change will come as I fulfill my destiny.
