MY PORTUGUESE GENTLEMAN

A Portuguese in disguise of a Bengali

The man assassinated the chambers of my heart

Wrapped me in academic fluidity, he never twitted rather his texts were

Ecstatic lectures

Though he embraces a matrionial obligation,

I wonder how godsend the woman was at my antithesis

My Portuguese gentleman was a literary almanac

He nurtured my interests of amatory

I allocated my erotic verses with him, he red, he asked, he loved them

I was unconsciously lovey - dovey

He was my John Keats but I was not the Fanny Brawne

His open S smile were Cupid’s shafts aiming at my faded sensuality

His lips raised like a climax from right to left were none the less than thunderbolts 

of cherry blossoms,

The love was mere lived, his discourses were the only

Alternating tinctures of my insensate romanticism

My Portuguese gentleman was a translator,

And I am his counterfactual interpretation

AMICA*

A friend in need is a friend indeed

But you stripped my faith

Molested my confidence

My emotions are miniatures of mirage

As you deciphered severe piques

You affirmed me as a chameleon

You imposed me as a criss crosser of statements

You proclaimed I rage complications

You raised words, temper, attitude, indignation

And avowed me simultaneously as your dearest

All were futile prompts and bamboozled designations

I am afraid of your quick moods

Hey amica! though I lavish you with amnesty

Irrespective of all misconducts

It’s my word of honor 

To remain indistinct, impartial and unprejudiced

But I judge and conclude

Friendship is a myth

You left me alone amica

Turning me as a pseudonym of lonesomeness

A friend in need is a friend indeed

Bidisha Chakraborty is a post graduate student in English Language and Literature from University of Calcutta, former intern as an Academic Researcher at Y.E.S Intercultural, Michigan (2020). She is currently pursuing her B.Ed degree, a pedagogic research course from Adamas University, Calcutta. Her area of interests prevails in creative writing and she is a poet by passion.
